Mr Eazi releases single “Legalize” ahead of his debut album

Music pioneer Banku, known for fusing Ghanaian highlife music with Nigerian chords, shares his affection for his Nigerian fiancée and actress Temi Otedola on the personal ode, her romantic groove beautifully underscoring Eazi’s proposal in the chorus: “I don’t wanna do koro baby do we legalize / My whole world stops every time you look me in the eye / even if you don’t know baby i’ll make you realize / i won’t let you go baby na you’ll be my wife. An international team of producers came together to create “Legalize”, including a Haitian DJ/producer Michael Brun, Nigerian producer E Kelly and Nigerian-Canadian singer/songwriter/producer Nonso Amadi.

“I started the song in Michael Brun’s house on edibles, freestyle. Later, I went to London and listened to what I had recorded, and understood what the song was about. I have been thinking for a long time about asking Temi to marry me, so I guess it was in my subconscious,” Mr Eazi said in a press release. “It’s more like this song is for me. A lot of the album I’m working on looks like this. I make music for me.

“Legalize” is the lead single from the Afropop superstar’s as-yet-untitled debut album, which has been in the works for a decade. It refers to his previous feature film projects, Life is Eazi, Vol. 1: Accra to Lagos (2017) and Life is Eazi, Vol. 2: From Lagos to London (2018), in the form of mixtapes. And for the launch of his long-awaited debut album, Eazi has commissioned various contemporary African artists to create one-of-a-kind pieces during live, intimate performances that will serve as the cover art for each single. According to the press release, “These coins will be tokenized and shared with the public through metaverses and specially curated physical events.
