Ghana Scraps Visa Fees for All Africans: Free E-Visas Start 25 May 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has made history. Ghana will waive visa fees for all African passport holders starting from 25 May 2026, marking Africa Day.T

President Mahama confirmed the old visa-on-arrival system for Africans is gone. Everyone must use the new digital portal.

The Bigger Vision This is just step one. Mahama’s long-term plan is for “all people of African descent” in the diaspora to travel to Ghana without visa fees too. He’s already tasked the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to work out the details.“

This is indeed a historic day for our nation’s journey to becoming a modern and efficient country,” Mahama said at the launch. Bottom line: If you hold an African passport, mark 25 May 2026. Ghana just became cheaper and easier to enter.
