Dolly Parton Turns Down Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination

Humble queen Dolly Parton is pulling out of this year's nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because she doesn't feel she has ‘earned that right’.

On Monday (March 15), the legendary singer issued a statement on her social media accounts saying that she did not want her nomination to take away votes from the other nominated artists.

Parton went on to say: “I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again - if I’m ever worthy.”

However, she did tease that the nomination has inspired her to put out a rock 'n' roll album soon.

She also said her husband, Carl Dean, is a ‘freak’ of the music genre and has always encouraged her to make a ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ album.

The Tennessee singer was shortlisted for The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 induction along with fellow nominees Eminem, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran and A Tribe Called Quest.

Previous artists who have also turned down their nominations include Ozzy Osbourne, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Guns ‘N’ Roses’ Axl Rose and the Sex Pistols - who referred to the museum and Hall of Fame as a ‘p*** stain’.

Another non-conventional rock ‘n’ roll artist who was inducted into the Hall of Fame was Ice Cube, with his fellow N.W.A members Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella and Eazy-E in 2016.

At the time of his induction, Ice Cube said that rock ‘n’ roll was an amalgamation of different music genres and that it doesn’t ‘conform’ to ‘the people who came before you.’

“Rock and roll is not an instrument, rock and roll is not even a style of music," he said. "Rock and roll is a spirit. It’s a spirit.

"It’s been going since the blues, jazz, bebop, soul, R&B, rock and roll, heavy metal, punk rock and yes, hip-hop.

"And what connects us all is that spirit. … Rock and roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and in life.”

Although Parton turned down the nomination, she wished all the other musicians good luck.
